Trishkit happy. My mother and stepfather are coming to visit today!

Even before I moved here, they would come to Ottawa at least once a year. It's one of their favourite places and my stepfather's best friend from high school lives here.

This also means that they can amuse themselves so I don't need to dance attendance upon them for their entire visit. Then again, my mom is easy. As long as she can smoke and read she'll be perfectly content. And they both golf, so it probably doesn't matter if I ever show up.

They leave on Saturday. I'll be hitching a ride back to our hometown with them and staying there for at least a week.

What this all really means is that I've got a hell of a lot of work to finish before Saturday. Most of my database clients come from my hometown region, so I've already got a lot of meetings scheduled. Plus, I promised to do an update for the software I created for my former employer, the insane bunny huggers. Have I started this? Of course not.

Instead of fooling around on the internet I really should give the apartment a final clean and go grocery shopping (I like to pretend that we have a normal life when family is around).

And think of a cunning plan to ditch them tonight so that I can watch Smallville.

Young Jack: You know, I’m really taller than I think.

After reading so much about it, I was thrilled to finally see this episode. I had wondered if it the kid could really be as good as people said – he was even better than I could have imagined! After we got used to the concept this really felt like an episode with a full time O’Neill presence. That kid had the role nailed! I bet that there will be an extra frisson when I watch Joan of Arcadia. I’ll expect him to bust out with an inappropriate O’Neillism. It would be funny if he did.

Overall it was very enjoyable. Poor Teal’c didn’t have much to do (as usual), but I thought that Sam and Daniel were hilarious together. Daniel has definitely grown on me as the seasons have progressed. I like the later, more snippy and sarcastic Daniel much better than the floppy-haired puppy dog from earlier seasons.

I did think that the ending was kind of dumb. I cannot conceive of any adult wanting to go back to high school and do it all over again (unless we’re talking about a grownup Lana Lang longing to escape from the drudgery of raising her three illegitimate children and working at the slaughterhouse). I’m really having a hard time imaging Jack wanting to go back to high school.

Then again, he may have been thinking of the chicks. It will probably be a while before adult women take him seriously, so I guess he’s got to take what he can get. And now that I think about it, if Jack O’Neill went to my high school?

I’d do him.
