Merry Christmas everyone!

I hope that Santa spoiled you all as much as he spoiled me!

Well, it's 7 pm and I am doing laundry. Pookie always works at Christmas since neither of us are into the holidays that much. He got home at midnight last night and we opened our gifts then. This morning we got up and spent about three hours on the phone with our families back home. He went into work at noon, so I've just been puttering around. It feels like any other day, except for that I have a box of chocolates.

I had a lovely chat with my Dad this afternoon and he LOVES our gift. I started jotting down some of my memories about the Marina a while ago, and Cat Pee scanned in some photos and put it all in a book. Apparently it was a huge hit! They had their dinner on Thursday, but Dad hadn't really had a chance to see the darn thing since everyone else hogged the book all night. He told me that he spent all morning reading the stories and he is just tickled pink. He especially loved the "Uncle Steve" and "Trucks I Have Killed" stories. I am SO happy!

In the end we want to get everyone to contribute their own memories. Dad has become keenly interested in our past ever since he had his stroke. He's been collecting pictures from everyone he can and loves to talk about his memories. I'm going to start writing down his stories for him, but he loves the idea of getting input from everyone else. As he put it "I was going too fast for too long to pay any attention to my own life when it was happening". My cousins are already all fired up and ready to go and eventually I'd like to get some of Dad's friends to contribute as well.

What started out as a little story prompted by [livejournal.com profile] fromward's mention of worms has turned into a project that means the world to my Dad. He always says that he feels guilty for "putting us to work" so early and we always tell him that we wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I know that it really means a lot to him to see how happy our memories of that period really are. That is all the Christmas that I need!
