I can't decide who sucks more - me or my evil timeshare clients.
I had to deliver a database update to the timeshare yoyos for today. Since I am a complete and utter idiot, I procrastinated for a week until I was faced with the unstarted task last night. I had worked at the call centre until 11pm and came home and worked on the database all night. I finished at 7am this morning.
I sent the update to them with the message that I would only be available by phone until 11am. I did this because I KNOW that they are going to call me since their new office manager is so computer-illiterate that she doesn't know what the right mouse button does (among other things). I also have to work again at 5pm, so I thought that I'd be able to get some sleep in the afternoon if I wasn't on edge waiting for the phone to ring.
Today is the first time all week that the smarmy sales manager hasn't called me at 8am and flooded me with email. What the hell? Why set a deadline if they aren't going to be there to receive it? Assholes.
This, of course, wouldn't be such a big deal if I had managed to get some sleep, which I haven't because some poor bastard is loudly shovelling gravel at the church behind my building. It's a BIG pile, he's going to be at it all day. Yay.
The lessons here, kiddies, is: DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. It always comes back to bite you in the ass. I say it often enough, one would think that it would sink into my thick skull eventually.
Sometimes I'm so stupid I startle myself.

Date: 2004-11-24 07:49 am (UTC)So, you are not alone in your procrastination! Not that it's much consolation when you haven't slept, I know. Tried earplugs to block out the noise? :) They're handy things for sleeping during the day.

Date: 2004-11-24 07:59 am (UTC)I have been a master procrastinator for waaaaaay too long. Although, I did just realize that I really only truly wasted Sunday, Monday and Tuesday morning since I had other commitments for the rest of the time, so I'm not quite as bad as I first thought. Go, me!
One of the things that I don't like about freelancing is that I spend a lot of time waiting by the phone for people who NEVER call when they are supposed to. Oh well, nothing you can do about it, really. I fired off an email to make sure that they are alive and attempted to lie down. That lasted about 10 minutes becuase I'm a little bit too hyper right now. I'm actually in a surprisingly good mood right now.
It's good to be giddy.

Date: 2004-11-24 08:01 am (UTC)I'm reluctant to get the the ear plugs because I'm certain that the bastards will call just as soon as I nod off. I'll give it another hour and then go for it!
Procrastinators Unite! Tomorrow.

Date: 2004-11-30 12:29 pm (UTC)I've also been following the coverage of President Bush's visit on tv. And I've been listening to the planes and helicopters that have been circling past my building since 9am this morning (I live very close to the rallying point of the protesters and to Parliament Hill). The President's helicopter flies REALLY low! My windows rattle every time it goes by.
Did you ever get all of those papers written? Or is that why you have been procrastinating?

Errr ... papers ... *slinks away*

Date: 2004-12-01 07:50 am (UTC)The visit was fine. The protests went off without a hitch, just a few idiots who tried to cause trouble, but nothing serious. I say this because the CNN coverage made it look much worse than it was. The majority of protestors turned around and walked away at the behest of the organizers once people at the front started throwing things. There were about 100 people who stayed and tried to be stupid. 16 arrests total. I'm just glad that the helicopters have left - they were in the air all night.
God, I'm so glad that I'm not in school any more. I hated papers. Or not writing them, more accurately.
Blechh.

Papers suck so much. I can remember sitting at my computer with 2 hours to deadline wishing like hell that I had learned to type so that I could go faster. And I also remember wishing that there was some way I could "scan" in the lengthy blocks of text I wanted to quote.
Some things never change. Some things do.
