Atlantis: 108 Underground
Aug. 30th, 2004 09:52 pmI enjoyed this episode a lot. All of the characters were given something to do and we got to see a bit of personality in Teyla.
I must admit that I have always kind of liked Teyla. She was extremely boring in the beginning and her wig is atrocious, but I was giving her the benefit of the doubt. In the past few episodes she's been showing glimpses of an interesting personality. She is decisive, smart and always seems to know where she is (unlike some other members of the team). In this episode we got to see her as more than just a contraction-impared, all-knowing alien.
And she so wants to do Ford.
I'm starting to get a little bit worried about Ford. He really likes to blow shit up. I bet he was a little firebug when he was a kid. Probably melted a lot of stuff too.
Wow, McKay is even smarter than I thought. All of the boys that I knew in Grade 6 only ever wanted to talk about hockey. Then again, the smartest guy in my class earned that crown with his amazing mathematical skills (his name was David and he knew all of the times tables and could do long division). I think I did my science fair project on the Loch Ness Monster that year. Don't remember any atomic bombs, but I really wasn't paying that much attention. I joined the school ukelele band that year and I had to spend a lot of time practicing.
I love Elizabeth, I really do. It's got to be tough being a leader. There is a fine line that you can cross when snark and sarcasm start to be perceived as bitchiness, but she is avoiding it well. And she has a the type of eyebrow/glare combo that used to send me scurrying to my room whenever my mother aimed it at me. Too bad Shep doesn't respond quite as well.
And Sheppard...wow, he's kind of a screw up. I still really like the character, but he's not impressing me much as a leader. Granted, he's dealing with a lot of tough situations, but things just don't seem to be going too well on his missions. Of course, it's much more interesting to see the results of these screw ups...
I am really enjoying the way that Atlantis is continuing to explore the repercussions of their initial actions. We were able to get an idea of the magnitude of their unwitting mistake in this episode. It's collossal. And it affects the lives of countless people. No wonder some of the people they encounter aren't too pleased to meet them.
And in another, semi-related note: there was a mini Stargate reunion on the latest Dead Like Me. Janet, Apophis and Maybourne all appeared in the episode. They didn't have any scenes together, but I can't recall any Stargate scenes with them either.
