Enterprise 4.15: Affliction
Feb. 20th, 2005 11:44 pmBest. Season. Ever.
How much fun was this episode? I'm still giggling madly.
First of all, cool plot with the Klingons/Augments. This is the kind of stuff that I hoped we would see when they originally announced the premise of Enterprise. It is so much more satisfying to see them get creative in order to explain the Klingon head ridges. Beats the hell out of Worf's lame "we don't speak of it" story on DS9. And I'm still snickering at the thought of the Uncle Philgon. Carlton would have wet his pants.
Why are all of the characters getting interesting now that we have to say goodbye to them forever? Sure, this season's ninja-Hoshi bears little resemblance to the Hoshi of seasons past, but I don't care - I like the new and improved model.
Malcolm's sudden transformation into a spy is a little bit easier to swallow. I always thought he was a sneaky little bugger. Just the same, he's not a very good spy, is he? It certainly didn't take long for him to get caught red-handed. I enjoyed learning about this new facet of Malclom and thought that Keating did an excellent job. The fact that Reed is a member of a secret organization is somewhat out of character, but his reactions to his mission and his unmasking and incarceration were not.
At least Phlox is still the same guy we know and love. He is carrying on exactly as we would expect him to. Phlox rocks, and I want to see him become best friends forever with Dr. Klingon. I think it could be a beautiful friendship, in an ugly, alien sort of way.
Holy cow, Trip and T'Pol.... I don't even know where to start. It is obviously going to be a tad more difficult to get away from each other than Trip previously supposed. Let's face it, their love is meant to beeeeeeeee. I love T'Pol's reaction to Trip's denial that his leaving had anything to do with her. You could see that his comment hurt and I almost died when she just turned around and walked out of the room. The "daydream" scene was hysterical. You've got to love people who can manage to annoy each other subconsciously. And then, to top it all of, we were treated to the priceless look on T'Pol's face when Hoshi described her dream. That, my friends, is the look of a woman who has just spontaneously given birth to kittens.
God, I love this show.
