OMG, the cute!

Before I begin, I would like to state categorically that I am a HUGE fan of fluff. The fluffier the better. Nothing makes me happier than watching cuteness on tv, especially when it is with characters who aren't generally cute and cuddly. Toss in some kittens (or Monster Trucks as the case may be) and you've got yourself one happy viewer.

The hungover guy in the clinic was my first clue that this was going to be a lighter episode. Loved him. Hope he comes back.

"JIMMY"???? Was Wilson trying to be amusing, or was he serious? One of the things that I love about Wilson is the fact that he is so deadpan. And a terrific liar. I don't think that it even occurred to House that Wilson would be lying about his Friday night plans until he heard it from another source. At this point we don't know how Wilson's marriages ended, but if it was because he was having affairs I bet he hid it well. And his reaction to the Monster Truck tickets was so adorable - almost as good as his dork-out about the masseuse in "Detox". So cute.

It wasn't spelled out (of course), but my Stacy theory is that she is House's ex and Wilson was meeting her for a friendly dinner as a friend. And, if we consider that Stacy would presumably still have an interest in House's well-being and Wilson is worried about exactly that, it makes sense that he would take the opportunity to discuss him with one of the few people who knows him well. And it would have served as a fantastic background for Wilson's actions in "Detox", but that would have required FOX to show the episodes in the correct order.

The Duckling interaction was amusing. Nice to see them hanging out and being normal people. Chase is just too cute. He will forever hold a special place in my heart for the "baseball starts in the summer, right?" comment. Cameron's reactions to House's "date" proposal were perfect. I liked that she didn't make a big deal out of it. She also totally bailed him out when he had retreated by coming back and asking what she should wear. Certainly a less painful way to acquiesce to a date that is not a date. And cute.

House, as usual, was wonderful. It was nice to see his lighter side and he had something hilarious to say in just about every scene. Yet at the same time we could see that there were holes in his armour. He was hurt by Wilson's lie, until he found out the reason for it, at which point he just seemed sad and regretful. The good news/ good news/ bad news scene with the wife displayed tact and sensitivity. That, coupled with his discomfort when she hugged him makes me suspect that he doesn't avoid human contact because he doesn't like people. I think that he does in fact care quite a bit about people, but finds it easier to avoid dealing with emotions of any sort. It was painful to see him ask Cameron out on the not-date, you could tell that he was really making an effort and for a brief moment had opened himself up to rejection.

I have to confess that I think that Monster Trucks are totally cool, but I would have been happy to see House enjoying himself at any event. For a brief time it seems that he managed to have some fun. Extremely cute.

But honestly, the hat is what clinched this as the cutest episode ever.

Funny that you would say that - [livejournal.com profile] serrico has some very interesting observations on that concept.
