I am safely ensconced at my sister's place.
My journey was a combination of awful/wonderful.
10:00 am - I decide to pop out to the bank around the corner to grab some cash for the taxi I was planning to take to the train station (train departing at 12:30 pm).
10:01 am - I realize that I have lost my bank card (for the first time since 1992).
10:10 am - Revisit the Harvey's restaurant that was my last stop yesterday.
10:15 am - After the Harvey's staff helpfully produced forgotten bank cards from two different banks along with various other credit cards, I give up and head towards my bank (it is, after all, just around the corner).
10:20 am - Discover that my bank is completely gutted and closed for renovations.
10:22 am - I retreat to my apartment to plan my next course of action.
10:24 am - I log on to my bank's website and discover that, even though I live in downtown Ottawa, none of the neighbourhood banks are open on a Saturday.
10:25 am - I broaden the search and discover a bank located a 15 minute walk away (important since I don't have cash for a taxi right now).
10:27 am - I scurry away as fast as my stumpy little legs will take me.
10:37 am - I make awesome time and enter the bank and line up at the Help Desk.
10:40 am - The bank is quite busy, so a girl at the Teller's window is also taking care of the Help Desk clients. She beckons me over. I humiliatingly burst into tears and manage to choke out "I lost my bank card".
10:41 am - Kind Bank Lady tells me to take a seat in her office and she will take care of it. I mop up my tears and feel like a complete idiot.
10:42 am - Kind Bank Lady enters office and I say, "I'm not crying because of the card -- I'm lame but I'm not that lame". Kind Bank Lady kindly says that she didn't think so and we get down to business.
10:48 am - In no time flat I am the possessor of a shiny new bank card and Kind Bank Lady kindly goes to withdraw cash for me, even though I assured her that I was more than happy to do it myself.
10:50 am - Cash in hand I am out the door after thanking Kind Bank Lady profusely. I burst into tears again as I hurry back home thinking of her kindness.
11:00 am - I can see my apartment building, but decide to pop into the local bookstore (just to test out my new bank card, of course).
11:10 am - New bank card works perfectly (thank you Kind Bank Lady) and I return to my apartment to grab my luggage.
11:12 am - I bid a tearful goodbye to my cat and depart.
11:15 am - I climb into the taxi that is outside of my door (it is so nice to live in a building that is surrounded my hotels).
11:17 am - Taxi driver is chatty and we talk about what a wonderful city Ottawa is. I choke up thinking of leaving it, but manage not to embarass myself by crying.
11:30 am - I enter the Train station and line up at the ticket counter.
11:35 am - After eyeing the hordes of people waiting for the train I decide to go for the gusto and buy a first class ticket.
11:40 am - I enter the First Class lounge and relax in the quiet atmosphere.
12:15 pm - I and my priviledged brethren board the train and take our seats. I am happy to discover that I don't have a neighbour and delighted when the Steward informs the distinguished looking older gentleman (wearing a suit complete with a red silk pocket square) across the aisle that our car only has 16 passengers for the trip.
12:30 pm - The train pulls out of the station. I get misty.
1:30 pm - The Steward patrols the aisle offering complementary beverages.
1:40 pm - The Steward shows me the menu and asks me to make a selection between beef, turbot or duck.
2:00 pm - The Steward offers us hot towels.
2:10 pm - The appetiser is served.
2:15 pm - Wine is served.
2:30 pm - The entree is served. I enjoy my beef dish immensely (sorry Aunt Lavinia). I enjoy the Strawberry Chocolate Mousse Cake even more.
3:00 pm - I alternately read, doze and look out the window. I am very thankful that the car is almost completely quiet, since I have discovered that my MP3 player is broken.
4:30 pm - The train arrives at Union Station.
4:40 pm - The subway arrives just as I step on to the platform.
5:10 pm - I arrive at Yorkdale and walk to the bus station.
5:15 pm - I buy my ticket and discover that the next bus is just arriving. I had been planning on taking the 6pm bus, but I decide to hop on this one as I have to wait until 8pm to be picked up by my mom no matter what bus I take.
6:10 pm - I arrive in Barrie and settle in for a long wait.
8:25 pm - Mom and George finally arrive (they were at a hockey game). I burst into tears when I see my mom.
9:00 pm - Mom and George drop me off at Cat Pee's place. I burst into tears when I see her.
9:05 pm - I burst into tears again when I discover that Cat Pee and her boyfriend spent the whole afternoon clearing out her spare room and turning it into a pretty, homey little place for me.
9:10 pm - Cat Pee goes nuts when I give her the Bath Bombs that
cleverocity and I picked out for her last weekend.
9:15 pm - Cat Pee and I settle in on the couch with a glass of wine and a slice of Chocolate Caramel Brownie Cheesecake.
9:30 pm - We decide that "Moulin Rouge" is a terrible movie if you aren't in the mood.
11:00 pm - We toddle off to bed.

I'm at my mom's right now. I just used her computer to send an update to a client and am waiting for Easter dinner.
Life could certainly be worse!
