Smallville: Memoria

Smallville: Memoria

Episodes like this are the reason why I need spoilers. I am so glad that I already knew what happened, or else I would have dropped dead halfway through. I don’t think my little heart could have stood the thought of Lex killing his brother. Sure, I bet that it was a fantastic episode to watch unspoiled. It probably was a mind-blower. But I find that I can relax and enjoy the episode more when I already know what is going to happen (I peek at the endings of books as well). Besides, knowing the details of the story still didn’t inoculate me against the emotional punch of this episode.

I mean, holy shit, poor Lex. Spending his whole life unsure of exactly why his father hates him, but being very certain that he did. They have definitely created a believable back story for Lex that gives ample explanation about how he could have the capacity to become an evil bad guy.

The scenes with Lionel and Lex were amazing. I’m still not sure if the storytelling scene showed Lionel genuinely attempting to be kind to his son, or if he was just toying with him. Either way, it was a wonderful scene. But not as wonderful as the scene where Lex tells Lionel the truth. John Glover is amazing (as is the Rosenbaum, of course). I love any scenes when those two are together, they really pull out all of the stops and go for the gusto.

And speaking of Lionel, I cringe whenever Clark goes near him. He is not equipped to spar with the man, his thinking just isn’t sophisticated enough yet. I am having difficulty seeing how he could possibly function as Superman without supervision. Hopefully he get a clue sooner or later.

And I want to know why the hell they can’t blame Clark’s abilities on the meteor? No one would ever need to know that he’s from another planet. There have been enough meteor mutants around that it wouldn’t be too out of this world. Then again, I haven’t seen all of the episodes yet; do any of the other people they’ve encountered have happy endings, or are they all locked up at Belle Reve?

Poor Lex. Clark should stop being an asshat and kiss him better.

'Cuz if he won't, I'm sure there are lots of people who will.

Lots and lots and LOTS of people...

OMG. Yes. Yes.

This has to be one of my all-time favourite Smallville episodes (and that says something as it has hardly any Lex/Lana - the main reason I watch the show.) I just thought both Rosenbaum and Glover acted their collective socks off in this episode.

And that last scene ("Maybe you could have loved me.") just breaks my heart. You get to see just how messed up Lionel has made Lex, and the look of realisation on Lionel's face when he see's he has been falsely blaming his son all this time? Perfectly acted.

As you can tell. I did very much love this episode. *grin*

Just so amazing. And yet I'm confused by the fact that Lionel is still trying to frame Lex in the later episodes. That is one seriously screwed up dude.

I guess that last sentence could refer to either Luthor. Or, indeed, any Luthor.

Truly a great episode.
