Smallville: Forsaken and some Season Four thoughts

There was lots to like in this episode, most especially Lana in the box.

Emily the creepy girl was suitably scary. I had fun imagining what The Janitor would have made of her. I bet he would have stopped her in her tracks by heaping scorn upon Lana, thus helping her to see the error of her ways. But alas, her father only looked like The Janitor, so she was able to put her heinous plan into action unfettered by common sense or sardonic commentary.

I loved the scene where Lana was trying talk her way out of the box. She pulled out all of the tricks in the Lana lexicon, the shiny eyes of sweet sincerity, the passioned pledges of sisterhood, the charmingly accessorized outfit, but it was all for naught. I had a good laugh at the scene, and it ended up really endearing Lana to me, I’m not sure why.

Clark, you’re such an asshat! You’re adorable, but an asshat nonetheless. I wasted more time than I want to admit on a guy who had many Clark-like qualities, not least the indecisiveness and INCREDIBLY ROTTEN TIMING. Come on Clark, you should have taken your head out of the sand a long time ago and taken some sort of action. And don’t get all pissy with Lex. He’s only trying to help because he loves you, and all that you’ve done is be bitchy to him. As my mother is fond of saying “either shit or get off the pot”. Being a friend means that you need to take the feelings of other people into consideration. You can’t be someone’s “best friend”, lie continually, and then get mad at said friend for the same thing. I really wonder about his parents sometimes. For supposedly moral, upright people, they’ve created an emotional cripple through their paranoia. I blame Jonathan. Martha is cool.

And Lex, my god he’s got chemistry with everyone, doesn’t he?
First of all I must say that for me, the tv Smallville and the fandom Smallville are two separate entities. I was introduced to Smallville through fanfic, and I must say that nothing that I’ve seen on tv can measure up to the wonderful stories that have been created by so many talented people. Plus, I don’t usually have a problem when characters hook up with the “wrong” partner on tv (Mic and Mac on JAG being a notable exception, man I hated him). I’ve got a vivid imagination, so I can make up whatever I want to see in my head. If canon isn’t heading the right way, that’s ok, I still like to watch. It gives me more insight into a character when you watch their interactions with other people.

This is my long-winded way of saying that I can deal with Lex and Lana. It sounds like they are going to go that way anyways, and I’d just as soon continue to enjoy the show. There’s no way in hell TPTB will ever consummate the CLex, so I’m not going to bother getting upset about it. That’s why I have fanfic. That said, I think that Lex/Chloe or Lex/Intelligent Adult would be much more interesting than Lex/Lana, but there are definite possibilities for them.

Not quite a “Pros” List…maybe “Lame Justifications List”?
1. Lex could pursue a relationship with Lana in an effort to piss off Clark.
2. He may feel that they have both been ill-treated by Clark and see that as a point of common interest.
3. Having someone around who is always in need of rescuing, validation and advice would be good for his ego. I think that he would find it gratifying to have someone actually appreciate his efforts on their behalf.
4. Lana is young and therefore (hopefully) trainable. There is less of a possibility that she would try to kill him.
5. I’m dying to see what Lionel would make of the pink princess.
6. Think of the conflict this will create with Clark!
7. They’re gonna do it anyways, why not enjoy the ride.
8. C'mon, admit it, the concept is hilarious.

Cons
1. The age thing. I have a hard time Lex being interested in your average high school student, no matter how pretty she is.
2. Lana is annoying. But it could be fun to see her annoy Lex.

My god, I’m long-winded. I’m even worse in person.

Again, Lex and Lionel are amazing together. I’ve loved watching Lex be all smooth and spy-like around Lionel. He seemed so much more confident and uncaring of what Lionel thought; I wonder if that’s what made Lionel suspicious. I absolutely don’t understand how Lionel can talk about family loyalty when he was trying to frame Lex. And did Lex’s revelation about Justin’s death not have any effect on Lionel? I’m kind of confused. I assume that this all just means that Lionel is really freakin’ evil.

And Lex’s look when Lionel was taken away?

Wow.
