Yay Shriners

One of the things that I love about my apartment is the fact that I have a great view of parades from my balcony. This is a good thing since marching bands make me cry so I can be pathetic in private.

Today was the day of the Shriners' parade. I've never seen anything like it. Shriners from all over eastern Canada and the northeastern US were in town for a convention and a parade. The parade took almost two hours to pass by! Lots of groovy little cars, clowns and men in funny hats.

We started off watching from the balcony until it got too cold, then we moved to the restaurant on the corner and had a late lunch and lots of coffee as the parade went on and on and on. I've never seen a parade that long before.

It all just makes me smile.

Oh, I missed it. I like parades. I was off in the evil suburbs at my nephew's birthday party, I guess.

I remember one time I was watching a Shriners' parade with my father, many years ago. One of them drove up in a little car, said "Hi John!" with a wave at my father, and went along on his way. It must've been an hour later that my dad said, "Was that guy talking to me? I know him from the church, but I thought he was talking to somebody behind me."
Yeah. Somebody else behind him with the same name who also knew that guy. Oh, I laughed.

OMG! My dad did the exact same thing at our local Santa Claus parade. Santa drove by and said "Hi David" over his microphone. Freaked him out big time when he realized it was directed at him. I don't know why. Santa was using his convertiable.....

Dads. Just when you think they are the weirdest person ever, someone else has the same story.

I don't know if that's comforting or scary!

Okay.. I've got to ask, but why do marching bands make you cry?

Because I'm pathetic??? I really wish I knew! I guess I just find them very stirring.

It is most annoying!
